Dorkys Ramos Assistant Teacher
Dorkys Ramos is a writer, artist, and teacher born-and-raised in Washington Heights/Inwood. She also serves as the deputy director for Uptown Stories, a local nonprofit that teaches creative writing workshops to kids in our community.
After studying architecture at the New York Institute of Technology, she pursued a master's degree in journalism at Syracuse University. Her articles have appeared in a variety of digital and print publications, including Travel + Leisure, BET.com, Time Out New York Kids, Parents Latina, Bon Appétit, and the Manhattan Times.
Writing and art have always been a huge part of Dorkys' creativity with the latter passion leading her to explore watercolors, gouache, bookbinding, brush lettering, and calligraphy. She has developed her own line of hand-illustrated stationery. To Dorkys, the pursuit of learning something new is just as, if not more, thrilling than as the finished piece. Being a teacher has turned out to be the perfect path for a forever student who loves to be surrounded by others just as curious as she is.
